One of the most popular Christmas activities in Vitoria-Gasteiz is to come to the ice rink set up every year by the city council in this, the capital of Álava province, in the Plaza de la Virgen Blanca.
It is a temporary leisure and sports facility consisting of a rink covering over 600 square metres, together with toboggans to take advantage of the slope of the square to slide down it.
Every year thousands of people enjoy this activity in a unique open-air setting thanks to its affordable prices and because Vitoria-Gasteiz is a city where ice skating has been gaining in popularity for over forty years because of its permanent ice rink (except in the summer months).
